GPS Help …… recommendations need.?

Hey guys! IM thinking of buying a GPS Nav new to me. This is my first after buying one, so I really need some good recommendations. I asked some friends and they all have different suggestions for me. Some say Garmin, Magellan others, and some Tom Tom. What works best? I live in Los Angeles, CA Area. Ah, well I have an idea.
